Clinton County High School student Katherine “Katie” Williams has been selected by The Center for Rural Development to represent Clinton County as a 2014 Rogers Scholar.
Katie, 16, a sophomore, will join 60 high school students from Southern and Eastern Kentucky this summer for the Rogers Scholars program on the campus of Lindsey Wilson College.
Katie is the daughter of Mike and Teresa Williams of Albany.
Rogers Scholars, the flagship youth program of The Center, is an intensive one-week summer program that provides leadership and exclusive college scholarship opportunities for students to build their skills as the region’s next generation of leaders and entrepreneurs.
“My goals align with the mission of Rogers Scholars in that I want to help improve my community by returning to the region after college graduation,” said Katie, who is keeping her career options open at this time. “I want to improve my leadership skills and share and interact with other youth on ways to help improve our community and region.”
The Rogers Scholars program was created by U.S. Congressman Hal Rogers so that “no young person should have to leave home to find his or her future.”
“The program emphasizes the development of skills in fields like science, technology and healthcare, and instills in participants a sense of leadership, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a commitment to rural Kentucky,” said Delaney Stephens, youth programs coordinator and community liaison for The Center. “We are proud to announce the 2014 Class of Rogers Scholars and look forward to working with each of these participants this summer at the 17th annual Rogers Scholars program.”
This year’s dates for the Rogers Scholars program are June 22-27 and July 6-11. Seventeen colleges and universities partner with The Center to offer exclusive college scholarship opportunities to Rogers Scholars graduates who successfully complete all of the program requirements.
