When AES 4th graders learned about Ronald McDonald House back in February of this year and how it helps sick children and their families, they wanted to become a part of the process.

They wanted to help those less fortunate than themselves. The students asked if they could start saving and collecting pull tabs and it grew from their desire to bring comfort and support to children and families who had to leave their homes for extended periods of time. They have shown incredible enthusiasm and compassion for those in need and we are so very proud of what they have accomplished so far.

With the help of Ms. Susie Thomas, pictured at left with one of the students involved in the drive and one of the 30 gallon containers full of pull tabs, the community and surrounding communities have become involved as well. The Court Designated Worker program from Clinton, Wayne, Adair, Casey and Cumberland counties also contributed what they had collected through their program.

After word getting out and students recruiting help from others, two 30 gallon cans full of pull tabs were recently delivered to Ronald McDonald House, and the students were already well on their way to filling these cans again before school ended last week.

Due to the overwhelming response this has earned, the students at AES, along with faculty and staff, would like to possibly keep this as an ongoing project. This is such a simple yet powerful way to give back and help others.
