Clinton County Fair kicks off Monday

The 2014 edition of the annual Clinton County Fair is just days away and will feature six nights of main events as well as multiple programs that will have something for everyone to be entertained.

This year’s fair format will be somewhat different in the area of program rotation. Usually, the fair begins with the annual beauty pageants, but this year, the first nightly event to kick-off will be the always popular Family Night, which has all kinds of events for all ages.

Monday night’s program gets underway at 7 p.m., but will also include the Pet Show that will be held at 6 p.m. There will be a 3D Archery Tournament featuring 20 targets as well as Red Dragon Lazer Tag. Gate admission is only $1 per person.

Pageants will begin on Tuesday, June 17 with the Little Miss and Mister, Pre-Teen starting at 7 p.m. There will also be a Lawnmower Pull and once again, Lazer Tag. Gate admission will be $5.

Pageantry will continue on Wednesday night, June 18 with the Teen Miss and Miss Clinton County Fair starting at 7 p.m. on the stage, but once again, optional events will include Dirt Drags and Lazer Tag with gate admission $5.

There will also be various events on Thursday, June 19, with the programs beginning at 6:30 p.m. with the Cornhole Tournament. Then at 7 p.m., the ATV and Dirt Bike Rodeo will take place.

Also on Thursday and Friday nights, there will be something new, especially for the outdoor types, as Chainsaw Sculpture will be demonstrated. Chainsaws will be used to carve animal figures of all kinds, benches and more and is sure to be both entering and a learning experience for many.

Friday night, June 20 will bring back the always popular Demolition Derby, a Power Wheels Competition and Lawnmower Derby starting at 7 p.m. Admission at the gate both Thursday and Friday nights will be $5 each.

Absent on Friday this year will be the drawing for the tractor as the fair board opted not to have the tractor give-away this year.

The 2014 fair will conclude on Saturday, June 21. The annual baby show will be held that morning starting at 10 a.m. with a $2 gate admission.

The fair will conclude that night with the KOTTPA Truck Pull at 7 p.m. and wrestling will be featured in the ring in front of the grandstands at 8 p.m. Admission at the gate Saturday night is also only $5.

The carnival will be on the midway all week and feature armband options where you can pay one price and ride all rides all night Armbands will be available Monday, Tuesday and Thursday for $10 and Wednesday, Friday and Saturday for $12.

Of course, a county fair wouldn’t be a county fair without the participation of the community and that includes 4-H shows, exhibits of all kinds in the Exhibit Hall and more.
