Summer sports lull time

Golf is always an option, as is water sports and fishing and there is always a little softball on the local scene, and hunting enthusiasts are busy getting things ready for deer season, but for the most part, we’re talking about individual fun only in this area.

Team sports, especially on the high school level, are currently going through the dead period right now and while high school athletes are certainly able to condition and practice on their own, there can be no organized team training for the next three weeks or so.

Organized practice for the next upcoming high school seasons can officially begin on July 15, so until then, don’t expect to be getting a lot of news about our athletes at C.C.H.S.

Unless there have been changes that I’m not aware of, up next in Clinton County will be the fall sports lineups for the 2014-15 seasons that feature our boys’ and girls’ soccer, cross country and golf teams, in addition to the girls’ volleyball and boys’ football seasons.

So, for the next few weeks, before team developments begin, get out and enjoy the summer weather. Hit one of our two lakes for a weekend of fishing (the crappie are big and hungry right now, I’m hearing) or head out to 76 Falls Country Club and take in a round of golf.

We’re headed into the dog days of summer, so get out and enjoy the heat. We’ll be missing it again before you know it.

Shelley, Huff compete in state amateur golf

On the state scene, last week’s Kentucky Amateur Golf Tournament held in Georgetown’s Cherry Blossom Country Club did have at least two local participants that I noticed while scanning the scores each day.

Former Golf Dawgs Evan Shelley and Bobby Huff competed in the Clark’s PumpNShop Marathon Kentucky Amateur Golf Tournament. Failing to qualify for the final third round, both Bobby and Evan still had nice opening rounds of 75 and 76 on their first two days at the par 72 course. There may have been other local participants, but I didn’t notice any – if so, let me know.
