Turnovers … by Alan B. Gibson

Second of the big three – it’s half-way over

Might be hard to believe, but as the Al Gibson calendar system goes, summer is half-way over.

Yeah, I know that according to the “other” calendar – that one that hangs on all of our walls, summer actually just got started on June 21, but in southern Kentucky life, I have long marked the summer season by the three big tourism holidays – Memorial Day being the start, July 4 the middle, and of course Labor Day the end.

That brings up two points – summer is rounding the turn and headed for home – believe it or not. Sure, there are still plenty of hot days and sunshine to enjoy, but before you know it – especially if you are a student or parent of a student – we’ll be back in school and outdoor activities will be limited.

Get outside now and enjoy some summer activities.

Secondly, this coming weekend will be huge as far as tourism visitation goes, and considering the actual 4th of July falls on a Friday this year, expect traffic around the area to be even heavier – both on our roadways as well as our waterways.

As always – have fun, but be careful and give yourself plenty of extra space and time.

Make it a safe July 4 for everyone.

Congrats to the Heat

Paige Burchett Mason sent in a nice photo this week of the youth baseball team, the Albany Heat, with the championship trophy they took possession of this past weekend in the Southern Kentucky Classic tournament in Russell County.

Congrats to this young team and the coaches on the championship win.
