Candidates slow to file for local non-partisan ballot

With only a handful of local non-partisan races to be added to the 2014 general election ballot in November, there hasn’t been a run on the County Clerk’s office from potential candidates.

Only one additional candidate had filed a petition to seek office over the past two weeks, that being incumbent city council member Tonya Thrasher, who will be seeking a third term on the city’s governing body. No candidate had filed within the last calendar week.

To date, only five non-partisan candidates have filed for local office, all being current incumbent office holders.

All city offices of mayor and six council members and two seats on the Clinton County Board of Education will be on the November ballot in several precincts in Albany and Clinton County.

Through Monday, July 7, only one candidate had filed for mayor; only one candidate had filed for school board member in district one and only three persons had filed for a seat on the city council. No candidate has yet to file for school board in the fifth district consisting of the South Albany and Hayes-Maupin precincts.

Also, the Clinton County News is still offering any candidates who have not already done so, to submit a brief–one time only free–profile of themselves prior to the election season.

The deadline to file in any non-partisan race for the November general election in the County Clerk’s office is 4 p.m. Tuesday, August 12.
