U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield (KY-01), Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Energy and Power, recently welcomed William Cox to serve in his Washington, D.C. office this summer.

William Cox from Albany began serving in the office earlier this month as part of an internship experience aimed at providing a multifaceted look at the legislative process and a first-hand understanding of how Congress works.

He is the son of Jennifer Dyer of Albany and Paul Cox.

Cox will be a junior at the University of Kentucky where he is pursuing a major in Political Science and Mathematical Economics.

“This opportunity to serve the people of the First District of Kentucky has been a true delight and I thank Congressman Whitfield and his staff for having me,” Cox said. “I have learned so much about how our great nation works and will never forget this once-in-a-lifetime experience.”

Whitfield hosts interns throughout the year in his Washington, D.C. office. Interns have the opportunity to attend legislative hearings and briefings, assist staff with research for the Congressman, and take on a number of administrative projects.

“I commend these young leaders of tomorrow for taking the time and making personal sacrifices in order to come to our nation’s capital and gain a better understanding of our government,” Whitfield said. “I hope the experience provides them with an educational and cultural understanding that will be of great benefit to their future and am certainly proud to have them as a part of our dedicated team here in Washington.”
