Busy time for students, staff and parents

As I mentioned last week, it’s a busy time right now for students, parents and the staff who are anxiously looking at the calendar and the first day of classes next week – although for school staff members, summer vacation has already come to an end.

Although it is a busy time and plenty of local sports activity is just around the corner, there is still not enough final results to make for a lot of local sports news, thus the reasons these writing have been somewhat slim the past couple of weeks – hopefully that changes soon.

While we are still working on the fall Big Blue Preview and hope to release that publication in a couple of weeks, as has always been the case with the fall sports lineup, some of the teams will have already started their seasons

I would hope to be getting updated fall sports schedules this week and we can get down to business at least by the next issue.

Big event in Louisville – the PGA returns

Golf fans are of course aware that this is a big week in Kentucky – not as big as Derby week, but as the stage goes this year, likely the state’s second biggest week of 2014.

The return of the PGA tournament to Vahalla Golf Club in Louisville has been making news for several weeks now, and the big names began arriving in the Derby City this past weekend as some professionals made a direct flight or drive Sunday from the Bridgestone Tournament last week that was held just “up the road” in Akron, Ohio.

Word is still not in as of Tuesday morning whether or not Tiger Woods will made the lineup after re-injuring his lower back last Sunday in the final round of the Bridgestone.

Regardless, with Kentuckians Kenny Perry and J.B. Holmes in the lineup for tournament play, along with most of this year’s Top 100 players, golf fans attending should find the outing very entertaining to say the least.

Big congrats to Keifer

Readers should enjoy this week‘s sports feature about one of our own standout basketball players – Keifer Dalton who returned to Clinton County last week after playing for “The Ville”, a traveling AAU 11th grade basketball team that won the national championship title in an event that was held at Freedom Hall in Louisville.

Being a member of this caliber of team speaks tremendous volumes of Dalton not to mention his representing Clinton County High School on a national level.

Congrats to Keifer – as well as to proud Mom and Dad, Charlotte and Keith Dalton.
