The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has been requested to investigate the shooting death of a White County woman, according to Josh Devine of the TBI.

The shooting occurred Thursday evening at Knollcrest Apartments in Sparta.

According to a press release from the Sparta Police Department issued late Friday afternoon, police responded to the scene after the discovery of a deceased person. Sparta Police, the White County Sheriff’s Department, TBI officials and the 13th Judicial District Attorney’s Office were on the scene until the early hours of Friday morning.

Sparta Police, along with the TBI, are continuing the investigation and details will be released upon the conclusion of the investigation.

Three people were arrested for theft in two separate incidents.

Officer Scott Polston, of the Algood Police Department, arrested Chance Lee Handy, of Cookeville, for theft after Handy was found to have stolen goods in his possession early this morning.

Polston had taken a report of an aggravated burglary at 6:07 p.m. Later in the night, Polston and Officer Johnny Cyrus of the Algood Police Department parked near the location of the armed robbery and walked around the area.

They located Handy near the wood line in Algood.

At that time, Handy had a can containing $50.51 and a 40 inch Toshiba television valued at approximately $662.02, according to the affidavit.

Handy was arrested for theft and taken to Putnam County Jail. His bond was set at $5,000.

In an unrelated incident, Dustin Lee Puckett and Amy Denise Floyd, both of Monterey, were arrested for allegedly taking a 2007 Suzuki motorcycle valued at $7,900.

The incident was investigated by Linda Jordan, of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department.
