Submission deadline is September 30

The November General Election is still over a month away, but the campaign season has already begun to heat up with candidates advertising their hopes for vote and support from local residents who will go to the polls on November 4.

During the primary season, the Clinton County News gave all candidates a free, one shot opportunity to get their names and general information about themselves to the voters by publishing profiles of several candidates who were running for office this past election.

Once again, the NEWS is offering new candidates, or candidates who are in the running but did not have a previous profile published, to do so prior to the fall election in Albany and Clinton County.

Candidates who have previously submitted a profile prior to the primary in May will not be eligible for a second profile.

Any new candidate who filed prior to the August 12 deadline, seeking office in Albany and Clinton County, i.e. all city races, school board seats and judicial seats, or candidates unopposed in the primary who did not submit a profile, may do so.

Incumbent office holders who have not submitted a profile can also do so.

Candidates can submit their own written profile (subject to editing). Information should be limited in scope to a candidate’s background, current status, a brief summary of why they are seeking a particular office and family information. The articles should be limited to four to six paragraphs, if possible.

The profiles will be published one time, free of charge as a means of introducing each candidate to the public prior to the election.

Candidates who would like to take advantage of the offer can submit their profiles, along with a photo (optional) either in person at the office of the Clinton County News (116 N. Washington St.) or via email: gpcompany@kih.net. Email submissions can include the profile information directly in the body of an email, or attached separately as a Word (.doc) document. Photos should be attached as separate attachments, in full resolution jpeg (.jpg) format.

The Clinton County News will gladly make a photo to be used along with the profile at no charge.

All profiles should be submitted for publication no later than 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 30.

Steve D. Hurt

Candidate for

Circuit Court Judge of the 40th Judicial Circuit

My entire adult life has involved the legal profession. I was led to it from an early age.

After law school, I practiced law for six years. I was elected District Judge in 1985, then re-elected four times. I retired in 2009, became a Senior Judge and served across the state in approximately 33 jurisdictions, as a District Judge, Family Court Judge and Circuit Court Judge. .

As my Senior Judge commitment began to come to a close, I realized that I would miss serving the judiciary. Yes, there is a lot of hard work and stress in dealing with disputes between people during difficult times in their lives, as there is in applying the laws of our nation and state to cases that were brought before me.

However, there is also a great deal of satisfaction in resolving disputes that people cannot resolve themselves without the help of the courts, as there is with administering justice in criminal proceedings between the state (the people), victims, and those accused of crimes.

I care about people. In particular, I care about the people of this region. I want to help make this area a better place to live. I believe that I have the knowledge, experience, and temperament to competently serve as the Circuit Court Judge of the 40th Judicial Circuit (Clinton, Cumberland, and Monroe counties). And, if elected, will make a positive difference “…for the people”.
