Colin Langford was held back by his jersey as a Caverna player latched on during a play in the first half. Clinton County lost the game, 28-6, and will host Metcalfe County Friday in the fifth of a five home game stretch.

The Clinton County Bulldogs Football team hosted Caverna Friday night in hopes of putting four wins in a row together, however, a non-productive first half on offense saw the Dawgs trailing 18-0 at the half and finishing the game with a 26-8 loss.

The team moves to 3-2 on the year.

Head Coach Jamie Miller said he was disappointed in the loss Friday night and his team will work hard this week to try and eliminate some of the mental mistakes that took place Friday night.

“After reviewing the game, it’s not so much what we did, it’s what we didn’t do,” Miller said. “They had some great athletes and I knew going into Friday night’s game they were going to be athletic. We did make some adjustments at halftime and the score was tied for the second half. We dug ourself a hole in the first half.”

Miller said he felt like his team moved the ball well on offense during the night, but turnovers played a key factor in Clinton County’s loss.

“It kind of makes it tough,” Miller said. “Our first possession, first play of the game we fumble the ball. It just kind of set the tempo. It’s just frustrating. As far as a positive aspect, they didn’t ever give up. They felt like they could move the ball and they did. I think they realized that when they have turnovers it hurts.”

This week, Clinton County will host Metcalfe County in the final home game of a five-game stretch. Miller thinks Friday night’s game will be competitive.

“Metcalfe County is a little down from what they were in the past. They are going to be a strong team and probably one of the biggest teams we will face all season,” Miller said. “They are not going to be as quick as we’ve seen. They have a good running back who is good-sized, but their quarterback is not as mobile, which that is what has hurt us in past games.”

Miller said Metcalfe is old school and will run straight smash mouth football.

“We have to make sure we take care of the football,” Miller said. “We can’t fall behind. We play a lot better when we are ahead. Hopefully our guys will respond well from the loss this past Friday and we will come out and just play.”

Clinton County’s match up with Metcalfe County will start at 7 p.m. Friday night at Bulldog Field.

“All I want is for them to play to the best of their abilities and if we can do that, I like our chances,” Miller said.
