The 19th annual Rollercoaster Yard Sale, one of the oldest and best marathon sales, is coming through the region, including Albany and Clinton County this weekend. The primary days for the yard sale is Thursday through Saturday, October 2-4.

The sale stretches through eight counties in Kentucky and Tennessee, including Clinton, Monroe, Barren, Cumberland and Metcalfe in Kentucky and Clay, Overton and Pickett counties in Tennessee.

All eight counties are promoting the three-day event as the Rollercoaster route travels through 25 communities in the two states, stretching for more than 150 miles.

Local restaurants, hotels and other businesses all benefit somewhat from the extra amount of travelers in the area looking for bargains. There are always lots of vendors, BBQ outlets, flea market sales, antiques and crafts along with the historic sites in one of the most scenic areas of rural Kentucky and Tennessee.

The sale started in 1986 in the Temple Hill area and was first known as the “Rollercoaster Fair,” which was aimed at promoting improvements to the winding Hwy. 163 (Cordell Hull Highway). The sale still rolls on from Temple Hill to points north and south–north through Glasgow to Cave City and south to Mt. Herman, Lick and Tompkinsville, then down Hwy. 163 to Moss, Celina, Livingston and Byrdstown in Tennessee.

The scenic route then encircles the Dale Hollow Lake area and comes back into Kentucky, going through Albany and Burkesville and taking Hwy. 90 back west to Glasgow.

Everyone along the route is encouraged to spruce up their yards and business locations, and if you need a little extra money, to set up a sale location for those items you no longer need.

Each community along the route is special and unique and several offer additional events to compliment the sale.

There will be various locations in the Albany and Clinton County area, including a few repeat vendors that set up at Mountain View Park.
