Dawgs come close – but come up short

After mounting a comeback in the first half of play – much on the double kick-off scoring returns of Lucas Gibson, the Bulldogs came up just short of posting a victory this past Friday night, giving up a 28-22 decision while visiting the Lynn Camp High Wildcats.

The loss is the third straight for our Dawgs, after an earlier three game win streak earlier in the season.

Now, with just three games remaining on this 2014 schedule, the Bulldogs will spend the next two outings facing teams from across the state line in Tennessee, in what will certainly be a couple of Dawg fights.

This Friday night we head to Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee to take on those Bulldogs, who are currently 4-3 overall, and are coming off back to back victories, the most recent a 16-15 win over Goodpasture (Tennessee) Christian. The week prior, the RBS Bulldogs picked up a 32-24 win over another team of Bulldogs – Clay County.

Speaking of Clay County – and now we are – that will be Clinton County’s next opponent in waiting on the schedule, following a week off for the Foothills Festival break on Friday, October 17.

The Clay County Bulldogs will be in town on Friday, October 24, to face Clinton County on what will be Senior Night.

With the year winding down now for our gridiron Bulldogs, the final game of the season is slated for Halloween night, Friday, October 31, when our Bulldogs travel to Jackson, County.

Fall lineup winding down for some

With golf already over in this lineup of fall sports, and as I mentioned above, football now heading for the final three games, most of the other fall sports are also looking at the final days of competition.

Soccer, both girls and boys, are finishing up regular season matches this week and will be playing in the district tournament at Glasgow next Monday.

Our Volley Dawgs will see regular season matches coming to an end with a road trip next Tuesday to Adair County, followed by District Tournament play on October 20 at Metcalfe County and hopefully regional tournament play the following Monday, October 27, at Warren Central.

Of course the squad with the most events still to be completed is the squad that always gets the latest start in the fall lineup at CCHS, the Runnin’ Dawgs Cross Country team.

Meets continue until the early weeks of November and local fans are reminded to get up early on Saturday, October 18 for the Foothills Festival 5K Run that always sees most of the members of both the high school, as well as members of the Clinton County Middle School Cross Country teams ,participating – usually in their blue and white uniforms.

Without a local course and the chance to actually compete in front of local fans, these young athletes always clearly enjoy hearing the cheers and encouragement from Clinton County fans as they head toward the Foothills 5K finish line.
