Formal sentencing was held on Tuesday, September 23 for a Wayne County man who pled guilty to manslaughter charges in connection with the May 2012 death of Roger Dean.

Jimmy Massengale was sentenced to 12 years in prison when he appeared before Circuit Judge Vernon Miniard, Jr. Massengale received a sentence of 12 years on the manslaughter charge and five years on a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The sentences will run concurrent for a total of 12 years, according to court documents.

Massengale was originally charged with murder in the shooting incident that occurred May 27, 2012 on Davis Street in Monticello. Officers said the victim, who was an acquaintance of Massgengale, sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

Massengale entered the plea agreement which amended the murder charge to manslaughter in July. Under the agreement, three counts of wanton endangerment against Massengale were dismissed.

According to agents with the Lake Cumberland Area Drug Task Force, Patrick Humble was arrested on September 24 and charged with two counts of trafficking in a controlled substance.

Humble was lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center on a $10,000 cash bond.
