Two games remain, Dawgs looking for two wins

The Clinton County Bulldogs lost its fourth game in a row and move to 3-5 on the year after Friday night’s 47-8 final against Red Boiling Springs.

Head Coach Jamie Miller is looking forward to this week’s bye-week and said he is going to get back to the basics for Clinton County’s final two games of the season.

“We played terrible,” Miller said. “They had a running back who was better and faster than I thought he was. He was faster than anybody on our team and he showed us Friday night.”

Miller said during the next two weeks he will get back to fundamentals and hopefully the team will be ready for the final two games of the season.

“There were plays we’ve run all year and were successful at them that just weren’t executed the right way,” Miller said. “Fundamentally we are not very sound right now. We are going to work fundamentals this week and next week and try and get back on track. We’ve had so many mental mistakes that it’s just killing us.”

One thing Miller said he has preached to his players about is making the “for sure” hit and not trying to hit the other team as hard as they can.

“When you have a good elusive back, they are not going to take a big hit. They are going to shift at the last second,” Miller said. “Sometimes they will leave you hugging air. The big plays and the big hits will come. Right now we just need to be fundamentally sound.”

Miller said the Bulldogs only had one turnover Friday night against Clay County.

“Once you get down a little bit, our guys kind of get down and we’ve talked about that,” Miller said. “We talked about believing in themselves today and hopefully that will carry them the last couple of weeks of the season.”

With the week off due to fall break and the Foothills Festival starting Thursday night, Miller said his team will get some much needed time off.

“We will start working hard and go full contact on Monday,” Miller said. “I told the seniors that they had five days of practice in pad for the rest of their life and I think that kind of hit home with them a little. Hopefully those three seniors will be ready to go. I told them to have a good time, but work your hind-end off. They all three responded really well to that.”

After fall break, Clinton County will host Clay County, Tennessee, for its final home game of the season. That game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. kick off on October 24.

The final game of the 2014 season is scheduled for Friday, October 31, at Jackson County, however, Coach Miller said Jackson County has requested the game be moved to Thursday night, October 30. There is no word as of press deadline if the game has been rescheduled, but there is a good possibility it could be.
