CAIP program

ends next week

Those who are participating in the current CAIP cost share program will have until noon next Friday, October 31 to complete practices and turn in bills to the Clinton County Extension office. There will be no extensions to the noon deadline. Completed practices will be randomly spot-checked during the next two week period for proper completion. Cost share payments will be mailed to all producers immediately following the spot-check period.

Kentucky Beef

Checkoff vote

Voting will take place at all Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service offices throughout the state on Thursday, November 20th, 2014 for a new Kentucky Beef Checkoff program. Times and procedures for voting will be determined in the near future.

Any beef or dairy producer, 18 years of age or older, engaged in the production of cattle on a commercial basis, including owners of farms where cattle are produced, and tenants sharing in the proceeds of the sale of cattle, are all eligible to vote.

The Ky. Beef Checkoff will be funded through the collection of an additional $1 from every head of cattle sold by producers in Kentucky. The current National Beef Checkoff program, which started in 1985, will still remain as an assessment on cattle sales.

The money collected from the new state-level program, if approved by vote, will be used for promotion, marketing, research, and education programs for beef and beef products.

The fundamental goal of the Kentucky Beef Checkoff is to increase beef demand, thereby increasing the potential long-term economic growth of all sectors of the industry.
