Fall seasons winding down – change to final gridiron date

Local sports fans can brace up for what will be a “lull” in action around these parts for the next few weeks, with the approaching end to the 2014 fall sports seasons and the impending break in action from most of the high school sports at least for the next month or so.

Our football Bulldogs will take the field for the final time this week, and fans should note an important change in the game date. With Halloween falling on Friday night this year, officials have chosen to move this week’s game against Jackson County ahead some 24 hours, to a Thursday night kickoff.

This final game of the season will see the Bulldogs taking a 3-6 record to Jackson County for a 7:00 p.m. THURSDAY night kickoff with hopes of breaking a five-game losing streak for their final outing of the year.

The Dawgs will be facing a Generals team with a 1-8 overall record this season. The Class 3A squad is coming off of a 34-12 loss to East Ridge this past Friday night.

Clinton County will be taking the field this weekend without the services of quarterback Eli Brown, who suffered a severe leg injury and has since undergone surgery to repair the damage.

We never want to see injuries to our – or the other team’s – athletes, and we wish Eli a speedy recovery. Watching your team from the sidelines is tough – one of the hardest things any young athlete will have to do.

Of course Cross Country, our last sport to get underway this fall, will be the last sport to finish it’s year later in November.

Roundball is just around the corner, but still several weeks off. Meet the Bulldogs and the Wall of Fame inductions are slated for Friday, November 14, and the first varsity basketball games will see the local teams taking the floor on Tuesday, December 2 when our Lady Dawgs and Bulldogs host Casey County for the opening games of the 2014-15 campaigns.
