The Clinton County Bulldogs played host to Clay County, Tennessee Friday night for the final home game of the year.

The Bulldogs lost the contest, 47-6, and move to 3-6 on the year with only one more game on the schedule.

“We had one long touchdown pass to Tristan (Lehman),” Head Coach Jamie Miller said. “He is going to have big plays from time to time. He is a play-maker. We had some good defensive stops, some negative yard plays and things like that, but we have to string those together.”

Turnovers seem to have been a thorn in the side of this year’s team, two of which came in the first half against Clay County that turned out to be just plain bad luck.

“One play was just kind of a fluke. Tristan had good coverage and he went up to bat the ball away and just so happened to pop it straight up and they ran down for an 80 yard touchdown,” Miller said. We had a couple bad snaps that turned into turnovers and that’s been part of our problem this whole year.”

Clinton County matched up well with Clay County Friday night, however, the Dawgs just couldn’t seem to find a good rhythm.

“They had a couple of really good backs, but not anything like we’ve seen this year. They weren’t the best backs we’ve seen,” Miller said. “We are really outmanned on the interior offensive and defensive line. We have a lot of freshmen and young guys playing on the front line and when they have juniors and seniors who have been in the weight room for four years, then that takes it’s toll.”

The final game for the Bulldogs will come Thursday night of this week against Jackson County. That game was rescheduled from Friday night, Halloween.

“It’s seems to me like three or four weeks ago we were at camp,” Miller said. “Football season always kind of does that to me. We have our first game and we think we have a long season ahead of us. When we get to the end it’s like it just started.”

Miller said the team has a chance to finish the season with the same record as last year, but he wanted more wins this season.

“I think our guys are great front runners,” Miller said. “The whole season was about momentum. One of the things I talk about is overcoming adversity. When things go bad, don’t let up. Put on more steam.”

Clinton County’s final game of the season will also have the team without seasoned quarterback Eli Brown. Brown suffered a broken leg during Friday night’s game against Clay County. Brown was transported to Cookeville Regional Hospital Friday night where he had surgery to fix his leg. He has been released and is expected to make a full recovery before next season.

Thursday night’s game is set for kick off at 7 p.m.

Tristan Lehman caught a pass during the first half and ran the ball in for the only touchdown of the game Friday night against Clay County, Tenn. Clinton County was defeated, 47-6. The Dawgs will travel to Jackson County, Thursday night for its final game of the season. Kick off is set for 7 p.m.
