In a coordinated effort with several law enforcement agencies, the Overton County Sheriff’s Department assisted the Clay County Sheriff’s Department in a burglary investigation which resulted in several arrests and numerous felony charges, along with the discovery of a meth lab.

On April 3, Clay County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Anthony Cain responded to a burglary call on Happy Valley Road. Victims of the burglary reported to Deputy Cain that several thousands of dollars worth of personal property had been stolen from their property.

Clay County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Sergeant Randal Slayton was notified of the burglary. With Slayton having knowledge of burglaries of a similar nature in Overton County, he coordinated his investigation with the Overton County Sheriff’s Department.

As a result of developing several leads in this case, Slayton and Deputy Cain were able to determine that Brian Thompson and Gary W. Thompson were suspected to have had involvement in the burglaries.

While conducting the investigation with Brian and Gary Thompson of 59 B. Thompson Road in Celina, Slayton and Deputy Cain, with the assistance of Clay County Deputy Jeff Allen, were able to recover numerous stolen items from several burglaries.

During the recovery of the stolen items by Sergeant Slayton, Overton County Sheriff’s Department Detective Greg Cooper and Deputy Michael Tharp, an active meth lab was located at the Thompson residence.

The investigation culminated in both Brian and Gary Thompson being charged with numerous felony charges including promotion of manufacturing methamphetamine, manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, burglary, theft over $500 and possession of a firearm/ammunition by a convicted felon.

Gary Thompson was booked into Clay County Jail on a $165,000 bond. Brian Thompson was also booked into Clay County Jail with a $125,000 bond.
