The Clinton County Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps Bulldog Battalion hosted its annual Veterans Day Assembly Friday afternoon in front of the entire high school student body, along with veterans and many spectators from the public. The event was also co-hosted by the Clinton County High School Band.
In an event that is unique every year, this year, the assembly’s theme was “Til the Last Shot’s Fired.”
The assembly began at 1:15 with Master Sergeant John Thomure providing the welcoming remarks to the audience.
Battalion Commander, c/LTC Jacob Thrasher commanded the posting of the colors by the JROTC Color Guard while the National Anthem was performed by the Clinton County High School Band under the direction of Doug Sell.
Cadet Chaplain c/CPT Chase Claborn led the assembly in prayer followed by Thomure with a history of Veterans’ Day.
The ceremony continued with the posting of the flags, including the Army, U.S. Marine, U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Air Force. When each flag was presented, veterans in the crowd stood up to honor the branch of armed forces they were a part of.
The photo to the right was taken during the ceremony with CWO Ron Cook playing the song “Til the Last Shot’s Fired” toward the end of the ceremony.
The JROTC also recognized the “Missing Man Roll Call” with a 21-gun salute and “Taps” performed by the band. That part of the ceremony is illustrated in the bottom photo.
After the ceremony, veterans stood as specators shook hands with each of them to thank them for their service.
In the top two photos, cadets from the Clinton County High School JROTC Color Guard presented the military services flags while the Clinton County High School Band played the service song of each branch of the military.
