Weekend full of basketball – and we’ve not even started yet

A great crowd of local roundball fans came out Friday night for the annual Meet The Bulldogs event at Clinton County High School to get an early look at the teams we will be cheering on this season, as well as to offer congratulations to our newest Wall of Fame members.

Everyone seemed to enjoy Friday night’s Meet the Bulldogs program that sets the upcoming 2014-15 season into motion.

From earlier indications after watching both our Lady Dawgs and Bulldogs in brief appearances on the floor – we’re looking at a fun year ahead.

Of course congratulations are also certainly in order for our two newest Clinton County High School Wall of Fame members – Rachel Matthews (Class of 2002) and Charlie Stearns (Class of 2005).

Both were on hand to accept their induction plaques and everyone seemed to enjoy the time to meet and greet and socialize a little when the program came to an end Friday night.

Then on Saturday, both the Lady Dawgs and the Bulldogs were on the floor – the Lady Dawgs in Louisville and the Bulldogs here – in their first of two scrimmage settings.

Both squads will again be involved in scrimmages this coming weekend, with the boys again on the local hardwood as Lexington Catholic comes to the Lindle Castle Gymnasium Friday afternoon while our Lady Dawgs will head to Whitley County on Saturday.

After a few days off to “tweak” what coaches Messer and Thompson will learn in these final scrimmage settings, we can look forward to the start of the meat and potatoes – the real 2014-15 season on Tuesday, December 2 when Clinton County plays host to Casey County for double-header action.

The fun gets underway for the season opener at 5:30 p.m.

Kenny Davis – Gary West book signing reminder

Just a brief reminder about the book signing event that I wrote about in length in this space last week.

Area basketball legend Kenny Davis, a Wayne County native, and Bowling Green author Gary West will be in Monticello this Thursday evening to host a book signing event to mark the release of West’s latest book – Better Than Gold.

It’s an account of the experiences of Davis, who was the captain for the USA Olympic Basketball team in 1972. Should be a nice event and a good read.

The reception gets underway at 4:00 p.m. Central time Thursday, at the Wayne Theatre in Monticello.
