Everyone likes something when its free and especially beneficial to themselves and the community at the same time. And, this coming weekend, there will be the now annual free dump days in Clinton County.
Free dumping days allows residents to take unwanted trash, household items and about anything they need to get rid off to a dumpster to be hauled at no charge.
According to local PRIDE Coordinator Tuesday Davis, the free dump days will be this Friday and Saturday, May 6 and 7 at one central location.
Free dumping will take place throughout the day on Friday and as much of the day of Saturday as funding to have the dumpsters emptied last.
All of the dumpsters during this cycle will be located at the county maintenance building (old Rescue Squad) in South Albany off Columbia Street near Patriot Industries.
Once bins are loaded, they will be transported by Morrison Recycling to the Laurel Ridge Landfill in Oneida, Tennessee. Several dumpster loads are always hauled away during the free dump days in Clinton County, as the event has been popular with local residents as a means to do spring or fall house or property cleaning.
The program is again being funded by a grant from Eastern Kentucky PRIDE (Personal Responsibility in a Desired Environment) organization.
Davis noted that the grant amount that will be used to fund the dumpster pick-ups and hauling was $7,000 this year, down by about $3,000 from a year ago. Due to the cut in funds this year, the dumpsters may not be available for a full two-day period as has been the case in past years.
Davis also reminds everyone of items that are not allowed to be dumped. Those items include tires, chemicals or paints of any kind.
