Clint Poore has been lifting weights all his life. He is a very active member of the Omega Force weight lifting team as well as winning several national bench pressing awards.

Now, after a strong man competition held a couple of week’s ago, he carries the title of Kentucky’s Strongest Man for 2014.

The competition was held at the Atlas Athletic Club in Hopkinsville, Ky on November 15.

“The organization is called the American Strongman League,” Poore said. “They have several different classes and they give the title of strongest man to the person who does the best overall.”

The competition consists of six events including a one arm dumbbell press in which Poore completed 17 reps in 30 seconds.

The other events include, Yoke Walk, Conan’s Wheel, Farmer’s Walk, Overhead Log Press, and the Thick Bar Deadlift.

“It’s a bar that is about two inches thick … I finished second in that event,” Poore said. “Overall, with finishing first and second in each of the events, gave me the overall win for Kentucky’s Strongest Man.”

Poore said there are 13 or 14 different weight class divisions and they determine the winner based on a point system.

“It was really fun, but the bad part was I was sore the next day,” Poore said. “I couldn’t sleep. It’s one of those things if you ever have the chance to do and knock off the bucket list in life, then that’s a check mark on that bucket list item for me.”
