Friday night’s game wasn’t much different as the Dawgs led at the end of the first quarter, 26-8.

During the final period, Clinton County’s offense was lacking somewhat, scoring only 11 points in the period, compared to Metcalfe County’s 17. But the damage had already been done by the Dawgs as Clinton County picked up its 11 win of the season, 72-51.

The Clinton County Bulldogs put together an impressive second half against the Bobcats in order to pull out the victory, but in the first half, the Dawgs struggled on offense and had a small hole to climb out of.

To start the game, Cole Nelson hit the first basket for a quick 2-0 lead.

Pickett County tied the score at two just before Clinton County put together a 7-0 run to lead, 9-2 with 5:40 on the clock.

Pickett County then hit two from the foul line and a three pointer to cut the lead to two points with 3:36 remaining in the quarter, 9-7.

Two baskets by Lance Claywell gave Clinton County a six point cushion 13-7, but Pickett County came back and scored a three point play to cut the lead to three, 13-10.

Keifer Dalton scored a field goal to put the Dawgs up by five points with 1:59 remaining, but Pickett County answered with a field of its own to get back to within three points, 15-12. Clinton County added four more points to the board to finish out the period, while Pickett County put up two to cut the Dawgs’ lead to five points, 19-14.

During the second quarter, Clinton County went cold from the floor. Pickett County tied the score with 5:18 on the clock, but a field goal by Ethan Smith put Clinton County back up by two, 21-19, with 5:02 remaining in the half.

One free throw by Colin Langford put the Dawgs up by three points, but a three pointer by Pickett County tied the score at 22 with 3:50 on the clock.

The Dawgs took the lead back on a field goal and a free throw by Smith, 27-25, but Pickett County put together an 8-0 run to end the quarter up six points at the half, 33-27.

It took Clinton County almost the entire third quarter to climb out of the hole it had dug. With both teams scoring back and forth throughout the period, Clinton County finally took the edge it needed when Glen England stole the ball at mid-court and took the ball down for a layup to tie the game at 46, with 2:40 on the clock.

Chance McWhorter hit two shots from the foul line to take the lead, 48-46 and on the next possession, Dalton made a mid-court steal to put the Dawgs up by four, 50-46. Pickett County hit two shots from the foul line just before the quarter ended to cut the Dawgs’ lead to two points after three, 50-48.

At the beginning of the fourth quarter, Clinton County took control. A three point play by Dalton put the Dawgs up by five points, 53-48, but a three pointer and a field goal by Pickett County tied the score at 53 with 6:45 remaining in the game.

At that point, Clinton County buckled down and put together a 17-0 run that would eventually seal the fate of the Bobcats, 70-53.

With 2:50 remaining, Pickett County would score nine more points to finish the game, but Clinton County added four points to the scoreboard during that time and already outscored the Bobcats 15-5, giving the Bulldogs the 74-62 win and its 10th of the season.
