congratulates new leader after holding record since 1962

The basketballs stopped dribbling for a few minutes last Tuesday night in the Lindle Castle Gymnasium for a brief ceremony at center court to recognize the new boys’ basketball scoring leader.

Senior guard Keifer Dalton, above right, was joined on the floor by, from left to right, Al Gibson, Jackie Sewell, Kenneth “Chuck” Conner, Sherman York and Bulldog Head Coach Todd Messer.

During the ceremony, emcee Al Gibson recognized Dalton as the new points leader after having broken the record during a game at Montgomery County in the Gateway Classic Holiday Tournament.

Conner, who had held the previous scoring record of 1,887 points since graduating in 1962, presented Dalton with the basketball that had been acquired from the game at Montgomery County High School in late December.

Messer gave a brief overview of some of the accomplishments Dalton has achieved while playing at Clinton County High School, and both Dalton and Conner briefly addressed the crowd during the center court ceremony.

Sewell and York were both recognized as being teammates of Conner’s when the previous record was set in 1962.

The ceremony was held during the halftime break of the girls’ varsity Clinton County game against Pickett County, Tennessee.
