Master Cattleman Program

The Clinton, Cumberland, Russell, and Wayne County Extension Offices are partnering to host the Kentucky Master Cattleman program. The Master Cattleman program is a 10 session in depth program focusing on beef production and the beef industry. The program allows producers to network with specialists, facilitators and other beef producers. The master cattleman program provides producers with reference material from the 10 educational sessions and introduces them to several record keeping programs. The program is designed to enhance profitability by equipping producers with vital information. The Master Cattleman program will be split into spring and fall sessions. The spring session will include five sessions and begin in March; the fall session will also include five sessions and will begin in September.

Sessions included in the program are: Facilities and Animal Behavior, Management, Marketing and Profitability, Nutrition, Forages, Herd Health, Reproduction, End Product, Genetics, and Environmental Stewardship and Industry Issues. Class size is limited, so if you are interested in being a part of the master cattleman program, please call the Clinton County Extension office to reserve your spot. The program is set to begin in mid-March, a registration fee will be charged to cover the meal at each meeting. Producers completing the program will receive a binder with resources from each session and a personalized farm gate sign. Upcoming meetings

Private pesticide training

The Clinton County Extension Service will host the following private pesticide applicator training meetings, Thursday, January 22 at 5:00 p.m. and Tuesday, February 17 at 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.. The meetings will cover information necessary to obtain a private pesticide applicator’s license. The private pesticide cards are valid for three years and are required to purchase restricted use pesticides. Please call the Extension office at 606-387-5404 for more information.

Farm bill meeting slated

The Lake Cumberland Area Extension offices are partnering to host a Farm Bill meeting on Thursday, February 5 at 10 a.m. CST. The meeting will take place at the Russell County Extension Office located at 2688 S Hwy 127 in Russell Springs, KY. UK Extension Specialist Greg Halich will be on hand to discuss the Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC) vs Price Loss Coverage (PLC) decision.
