The Lady Dawgs improved to 20-3 on the year and are headed back to the All “A” Classic State Tournament in Frankfort, KY, after a 10 year absence.

In 2005, the Lady Dawgs made it to the finals of the All “A” Classic, but were defeated by Louisville Christian Academy. The Lady Dawgs also won the All “A” Classic two years in a row, in 2003 and 2004.

Friday night, Clinton County hosted the Lady Scotties for the chance to make it back to the tournament for the first time in a decade.

During the first quarter, Clinton County struggled from the floor, while Glasgow jumped out to 14-6 lead with 2:46 remaining in the first quarter.

With 6:58 on the clock, Kayla Dicken took a charge that proved to be a momentum swing for the Lady Dawgs as Clinton County put together a 6-1 run to trail by two points, 19-17.

Glasgow’s first half game plan was to hold the ball on offense and that worked for a little while, as Clinton County remained behind at halftime, 22-19.

During the second half, Clinton County came out on a mission.

With 7:05 on the clock, Bree Boils took a charge and Clinton County came alive. Stalcup hit a free throw to cut the lead to one point, followed by a three pointer to give Clinton County its first lead of the game, 24-22.

Glasgow tied the score at the 5:16 mark and took the lead on a three pointer of its own, but baskets by Allie Hopper and Stalcup put Clinton County back on top 28-26. Stalcup was fouled on her basket, sending her to the line for and old fashioned three point play, where she made the basket for a three point lead, 29-26.

With one minute remaining, Hopper came up with a huge steal that led to Joelie Hicks taking the ball to the goal and getting fouled by Glasgow’s best player, Breanna Glover, giving her four fouls for the night.

At that point, Glasgow hadn’t scored since the 4:42 mark in the third quarter while Clinton County put together a 14-0 run to lead by nine points, 38-27.

Glasgow hit two foul shots to cut the lead to seven points, but a pair of free throws by McWhorter put Clinton County back up by nine points with 4:19 remaining, 40-31.

Clinton County remained true from the free throw line, hitting 27 of 30 for the game.

At the 1:39 mark, Boils made a play that would ultimately seal the deal for Clinton County by taking a charge on Glover, sending her to the bench with five fouls.

Close to the one minute remaining mark, Stalcup came up with the ball and was fouled hard by a Glasgow player. A small altercation between both teams broke out that resulted in two technical fouls called, one on each team, as well as a personal foul on one of Glasgow’s players.

Both teams shot the technical shots, and Clinton County shot the personal foul shots, thus giving Clinton County the ball back with a minute remaining.

After all the foul shots had been taken, Clinton County led Glasgow, 46-40.

After Hicks hit two more foul shots, Glasgow hit a three pointer to cut the lead to five points, 48-43.
