Thanks to Mother Nature – that might be it

The old saying “if you don’t like the weather in southern Kentucky, stick around awhile, it’ll change in a day or two” would be a welcomed adage to come true about now as we look out the window at snow covered everything.

With just two games left on a nearly over 2014-15 regular season basketball season, Monday’s game in Bowling Green for the Bulldogs against South Warren was cancelled and won’t be made up.

Things don’t look so good for Thursday’s traditional season ending double header in the Castle against Barren County either.

Did I ever mention here that I hate winter?

Temperatures are expected to remain below the freezing mark until a warm up on Saturday when highs are supposed to reach 34 degrees, meaning very little melting of the white stuff will take place – other than what might be caused by the radiant effects of the sunshine.

In other words . . . that might be it, folks, for the 2014-15 regular season play, which means next, we move into the post season tournament round that gets underway over in Edmonton as Metcalfe County will host next week’s 16th District Tournament play.

A more detailed rundown of next week’s 16th District Tournament can be found in an article that begins this week on page 1, but in a nutshell, here is the schedule to take note, and get your Big Blue outfits ready for next week.

Our Bulldogs will be first up, facing Cumberland County on Monday night in the 7:45 contest (following the girls’ matchup between Russell County and Metcalfe County).

Our Lady Dawgs will put it on the line on Tuesday night in their first round contest against Cumberland County in a 6:00 p.m. tip-off contest (Russell County and Metcalfe boys follow)

The girls’ championship is set for Thursday, February 26, at 7:00 p.m., with the boys’ championship on Friday, February 27, also at 7:00 p.m.

Folks – it’s all on the line now, so let’s get out in big numbers and get behind our teams and take them on to Bowling Green and the regional tournament level.

Congrats to our frosh

Although the varsity district tournament isn’t until next week, our freshman teams competed Saturday in the 16th District Freshman Tournament in Edmonton.

Both teams picked up first round wins and advanced to the championship games, where they unfortunately were both defeated.

Still, both teams added some nice runner-up hardware to the trophy case at C.C.H.S. Congrats to our freshman teams and coaches.

Friday’s bar-b-que / raffle / radio auction postponed

Word came late Tuesday from Booster Club president Kim Gibson that the planned events this Friday involving the Booster Club bar-b-que dinner, reverse raffle and the annual Booster Club / WANY Radio Auction has been postponed, due to weather conditions and uncertain basketball make-up possibilities.

More when rescheduling details become available.

The calendar may say it’s February, but in Kentucky, March Madness is here already.

Don’t call me until April!
