Lady Dawgs pick up loss

The Clinton County Lady Dawgs traveled to Monroe County Friday night for it’s final away game of the regular season. Clinton County was without starting center Kayla Dicken again who is sick with mononucleosis. In other injuries, Bree Boils had to leave Friday night’s game after further injuring her knee. There has been no word if she will return for the remainder of the season.

Friday night’s game started out with Boils hitting a field goal for a quick 2-0 lead.

Monroe County responded with a field goal followed by a free throw from Clinton County.

The Lady Falcons then hit back-to-back baskets for a three point lead, 6-3.

Shyanne McWhorter knocked down a three pointer with 5:24 on the clock to tie the game at six all.

Both teams came out ready to play Friday night and Monroe County grabbed as much as an eight point lead in the first quarter, but Clinton County fought hard and cut the lead to three points by the end of the first period, 18-15.

During the second period, both teams continued to add points to the board with the Lady Dawgs cutting the lead to one point in the opening minute of the period, 18-17.

Monroe County then pulled away from the Lady Dawgs, putting together a 9-2 run to lead, 27-19.

Clinton County then made a 5-2 run to finish the quarter, 29-24.

The Lady Falcons heated up in the third quarter, outscoring Clinton County 13-6 during the eight minute period, 42-31.

Ansley Stalcup had to come out of the game during the third quarter with a ankle injury, but she would later return to the floor.

During the final period, with Stalcup back on the floor, Boils went down with a knee injury. Boils has been plagued with knee injuries this season and last season.

At the 4:40 mark, Monroe County grabbed an 11 point lead, 45-34.

At the 4:23 mark, Hicks hit two free throws to cut the lead to nine points, 45-36, but that would be the final time Clinton County would score until the 1:04 mark.

Monroe County won the game to hand Clinton County its fifth loss of the season, 50-39.

Clinton County’s next game will be its final game of the season. Thursday night, Clinton County will host Barren County with tip off scheduled for 6 p.m.

The Lady Dawgs are now 24-5 on the season.

McCreary County 44

The Lady Dawgs traveled to McCreary County Tuesday night, February 10, to take on the Lady Raiders.

During the first part of the game, both teams were back and forth with the lead and it took some time for Clinton County to find its groove.

McCreary County led the game at 11-6, but Clinton County quickly cut that lead to one, 13-12 with 2:45 on the clock in the first quarter.

McCreary County continued to add points to the board and by the time the first quarter had ended, Clinton County found itself down 21-17.

In the second quarter, Clinton County started to put points on the board and just before halftime, the Lady Dawgs led 33-27. Boils took a charge, her second of the game, with 30 seconds left to give the ball back to Clinton County. The Lady Dawgs failed to score on its possession, however, McCreary County was fouled, making two free throws with seven seconds to cut the lead to four at the half, 33-29.

During the third quarter, Clinton County held strong on defense and made shots on offense.

Clinton County reached a 10 point lead midway through the period, but struggled to score during the fourth period.

The Lady Dawgs did however, hold McCreary Central in the final period and kept them from scoring during the final minutes in order to pick up its 24th win of the season, 48-44.

Macy Campbell put up a three pointer during Clinton County’s game against Monroe County Friday night. The Lady Dawgs were defeated, picking up its fifth loss of the season. Campbell finished with five points.
