March is recognized as National Nutrition Month and local efforts to improve nutritional education are being undertaken by agencies right here in Albany and Clinton County including those being taken by the Clinton County Extension Office.

For instance, a new display is being showcased this month in one of the main floor cabinets at the Clinton County Courthouse for viewing. The display is shown in the above photograph.

The Clinton County Extension Office offers Adult Nutrition Education (NEP) classes that can help you address such issues. NEP classes are comprised of a variety of nutrition lessons. Each lesson includes hands-on learning activities to help participants apply what they learn in class to their daily lives. Following each lesson, participants are given various kitchen tools to help reinforce the skills discussed throughout the lesson. When participants complete a nutrition series, they are awarded a graduation certificate, as well as a new cookbook to encourage healthy meals at home.

A few good ways to take charge of your nutritional health include consuming fewer calories, making informed food choices and getting daily exercise.

Classes are offered at various times at the Extension Office, or can be taught individually, in small groups at agency or community sites, or at home through mail lessons. For more information, please contact Stacy Smith at the Clinton County Extension Office at 606-387-5404 or by email at stacy.smith@uky.edu. The newest series of NEP classes will begin on March 12 at 10:00 am at the Clinton County Extension Office. Educational programs of the Cooperative Extension Service serve all people regardless of race, color, sex, religion, disability or national origin.
