National Library Week, 1960, Did you know …?

Posted April 7, 2015 at 5:55 pm

There are a lot of people in Clinton County who have never visited the public library or Bookmobile, therefore have never had the enjoyment of checking out and reading some good books? There are a few people who do not know where the County Library is located. Do you? That’s right, it is in the City Hall Building, right above where the fire truck is kept parked. Why don’t you make a special effort to visit the County Library during this National Library Week? The librarian is in the library all day every Friday and from 1 to 4 p.m. every Saturday afternoon.

If you have never been to the library, you will be surprised at all the wonderful, interesting books you will find lining the shelves of your library. If you have had the idea that there are only old, out-of-date books in our county library you are going to be more surprised than ever. Many, many of the books are brand new, just published books.

Perhaps you think to yourself, “Well, I don’t like to read novels so why go to the library?” But, at the library you will find a great variety of books on every subject you can think of – from space travel to candy making. But, the most wonderful surprise of all is that books are not the only thing loaned out to our folks here in Clinton County. Do you have a record player? Then you can borrow records! Or would you like to have a lovely work of art to hang on your wall in your home? You can borrow pictures (which are copies of great master pieces) and use them for a period of two months at a time! Or are you a student who needs to use an encyclopedia quite often? You will find two or three or more fine, new sets at your own library! Plus many excellent non-fiction books for those of you who like non-fiction.

Two other loanable items which cannot be let out are magazines and films. Yes, if you own or have access to a 16mm projector you can borrow free films! The librarian has a catalog of the films which are available through your library, and there are hundreds of these films.

If you have children in your home who are pre-school age, you could not do anything that would give them more pleasure than to take them to the library and let them check out some of the beautiful children’s books. There are so many to choose from, and you will be giving your child a taste for good reading.

Did you know that the total number of books circulated in our county during January was 9,166? If you visited the library regularly, it could be more. Friday would be a good time to make that visit because there are from 150 to 175 brand new books in the library, brought here from the regional library last week.

“Wake Up And Read” is the slogan for National Library Week, April 3-9. Reading will open up new worlds for you – if you will only let it happen by taking advantage of the many facilities of your Clinton County Library.

Clinton County

Public Library, 2015

Did you know?

As the article above states, and is still quite true today, there are a lot of people in Clinton County who have never had the enjoyment of checking out and reading some good books! Do you know where the Clinton County Public Library is located? That’s right, across from Clinton County High School on Ky. Hwy. 127, and next door to the Ambulance Service. Next Tuesday, April 14, would be a wonderful time to visit your library as the staff is holding an Open House from 3 – 6 p.m. and is inviting the entire population to attend!

Besides the many interesting, wonderful books you will find there, check out a movie! That’s right! The library has many newly released movies for every taste and every age group…children’s, teens, adults, and seniors. Special children’s programs and Story Hour are held weekdays with guest readers who select books to read to the groups. Check schedule for dates and times.

Days of referencing encyclopedias have gone by the wayside for many, but researching has not. The library has free access to computers and the internet for many of those research projects today’s Clinton Countians are active in. If you are not computer savvy, the staff is more than willing and able to help you and teach you about using the worldwide web.

Your library also has access to e-readers, books you can read online. There are many titles and subjects available and a good alternative for those who don’t travel often.

Reading truly does open up new worlds to you, so take advantage of the many faucets of the Clinton County Public Library and attend Open House next Tuesday, April 14, 3-6 p.m.
