Tennis teams compete in Logan Co. tourney

The Clinton County Racket Dawgs and Lady Racket Dawgs traveled to Logan County Saturday, May 7, to compete in a tournament at Logan County.

On the girls side, it was Danielle Brown drawing the first round bye and losing, 8-2 in the second round. Bianca Soma got past the first round of play, but eventually lost in the second round, 8-1.

In doubles play, Amber Harper and Holly Adams lost in the second round of competition, 8-4, to a team from Graves County, and the team of Laura Groce and Kiley Hoppe lost in the second round by a final score of 8-5.

On the boys’ side, it was Kolby Smith with a first round bye. He lost his match in the second round, 8-6, by a Logan County player. Jared Hunter won his first round match, 8-6, but lost in the second round 6-0 and 6-1.

In doubles play, it was Glen England and Haley Matthews losing in the second round 8-2 and Clay Choate and Kyle Choate lost 8-2 against Logan County.

On Thursday, May 12, both tennis teams took on Cumberland County with the boys’ team picking up wins in all matches.

Winning in singles play was Jordan Vincent and Kolby Smith, followed by England and Matthews, 6-1 and 6-4, as well as Clay and Kyle Choate, 6-4 and 6-2.

The Lady Racket Dawgs picked up two wins against Cumberland County on Thursday as both singles games went to the girls’ in blue.

Brown and Soma won both their singles play matches in two sets.

In doubles play the team of Adams and Harper lost 6-4 and 6-4, followed by Groce and Hoppe, 6-1 and 6-0.
