Tennis teams wrap up schedule, play in regionals next week

The Clinton County Racket Dawgs hosted Metcalfe County Tuesday at Clinton County High School with the Lady Racket Dawgs picking up two singles wins and losing three doubles matches. Bianca Soma and Rachel Claborn, above, won their singles matches, with Soma posting a score of 6-4, 4-6 and 10-7. Claborn won her match 8-4.

On the boys’ side, it was Zach McFall and John Crouch, pictured left, winning their singles matches with McFall posting a score of 6-1 and 6-0 while Crouch won hit match 8-0. Clinton County also lost two singles matches with Matthew Wells and Logan Rigney falling 5-8 and 3-8 respectively.

In doubles play, Clinton County picked up two of three wins with the team of Glen England and Crouch defeating their opponent, 6-3, 3-6 and 10-8. The two man team of Matthew Hunter and Kyle Choate defeated their opponents 8-0. The team of Alex Morrison and Jackson Harlan were defeated 8-0.

Both teams will travel to Bowling Green this Saturday, May 2, to play in regional compeition. Head Coach Dipesh Soma said he has four players ranked in the region with Bianca Soma at number six, as well as Zach McFall ranked sixth. The team of England and Haley Matthews is ranked fifth in doubles play.

Other players heading into post season play will be, Wells and Claborn playing singles with Crouch, Hunter, Ashley Harper and Kristen Smith playing in doubles competition.
