A horrific two vehicle traffic accident early Friday evening has left an entire community in shock and mourning as six members of a Wayne County family, four of which were children, died at the scene of the accident.
According to Kentucky State Police out of Post 11 in London, officers with the KSP responded to the collision, located on KY 90 about three and a-half-miles east of Monticello in Wayne County.
The investigation determined that a 1999 Chrysler Cirrus passenger car with six occupants was traveling westbound on KY 90 when it crossed the center line and struck a 1991 Dodge pickup truck that was hauling a trailer. Two occupants in the pickup were taken to nearby local hospitals for treatment of injuries.
All six occupants of the passenger car were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the accident report from state police.
The victims have been identified as 41-year-old Tena Proctor; 25-year-old Sarah Elizabeth Ellis; 12-year-old Nathan Proctor; four-year old Christian Barnhouse; two-year old Zoe Bertram and 17-month-old Jase Bertram.
According to reports, Tena Proctor was the mother of Sarah Ellis and Nathan Proctor and grandmother of the other younger children.
KSP accident re-constructionist worked throughout the night Friday, May 1 trying to piece together the accident scene.
The wreck occurred at approximately 5:50 p.m. Eastern Time.
The entire Wayne County and surrounding area was shaken by the incident and crosses have been erected at the crash site in remembrance of the family. Also, according to reports from a Lexington television station, a family friend, Brenda Denney, has set up a Go-Fund-Me account for the surviving family members.
The accident is being investigated by the Kentucky State Police London Post 11 with several emergency personnel assisting at the scene.
