Several students from the Albany Elementary School were responsible for collecting pennies for their penny drive to donate to the Relay for Life. Above, a select few students took donated pennies to Monticello Bank to have their change counted. Bank employees Allen Smith, left, and Willard Johnson, right help students from the AES work the machine used to count the coins. The penny drive totaled $978.58.
Abigail Scheffler, age 9, volunteered her time by making 100 paper origami stars to donate to the Relay for Life. She sold the stars for one dollar each with all proceeds going toward the charity. “I just made them up and came up with the idea with some help from my mom,” Scheffler said.
She is the daughter of Shanah Pillar.
