One Monticello, Kentucky woman was killed and another was injured in a three-vehicle accident that occurred last Wednesday afternoon about three miles north of Albany.
The accident occured at the intersection of U.S. 127 and Ky. 558.
According to the Kentucky State Police, Mary Swope, 83, of Monticello was pronounced dead at the Clinton County Hospital due to injuries she received in the accident.
Swope was operating a 2000 Acura, headed west on Ky. 558, when she attempted to turn left onto U.S. 127, turning into the path of a northbound 2008 Ford being operated by Wanda Patton of Alpha, Kentucky, according to the Kentucky State Police.
Patton and a passenger, 46-year-old Sylvia Crosby, also of Monticello, were both transported to the Clinton County Hospital for treatment of injuries.
The vehicle operated by Swope was also struck by a second car, a 2013 Ford that was also headed in a northbound direction and was operated by Joshua Bell, 19, of Somerset, Kentucky.
According to the report, all drivers and passengers were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.
Funeral services for Swope were held Saturday in Monticello at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in the Elk Spring Cemetery.
The investigation by Kentucky State Police Trooper Jason Warinner is continuing.
Warinner was assisted at the scene by KSP Trooper Brian Gibson, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer Randy Honeycutt, Clinton County Sheriff Jim Guffey, Clinton County Constable Rick Stearns, Albany Fire Department and the Clinton County EMS.
