Clinton Fair gets early start with events this weekend

Posted June 10, 2015 at 6:38 pm

It seems like the Clinton County Fair starts earlier and earlier each year, and it is here again! The somewhat extended version of the annual fair will begin this weekend, officially starting Friday night at the fairgrounds with the Coca-Cola Talent Show.

The 2015 version of the fair will see–with the exclusion of Sunday, June 14–eight days and/or nights of the popular community event that once again has something for everyone of all ages to enjoy.

The talent show Friday at 6 p.m. will have a $3 admission and feature acts of all types for three different age categories from six years to 22 plus with winners eligible to compete at the Kentucky State Fair.

The first weekend’s events will continue Saturday morning with the annual Baby Show starting at 10 a.m. Gates will open at 8 a.m. for registration and gate admission is $2 on Saturday.

Fair activities will kick into full gear with a full week of events on Monday, June 15 with lots of pageantry and more.

The Little Miss and Mister Pageant will be held at 5 p.m., followed by the Miss Pre-Teen Clinton County Fair at 7 p.m. and a new pageant category, the Mrs. Clinton County Fair at 8 p.m. for ladies 21 and over. And, for readers not into pageants but rather outdoor events, there will be Dirt Drags starting at 7 p.m. with practice starting two hours prior to eliminations. Gate admission on Monday is $5.

The various pageants conclude on Tuesday night, beginning with the Miss Teen Clinton County Fair at 6 p.m. followed by the Miss Clinton County Fair at 7 p.m. and again, an additional event will take place on the main drag with the Lawnmower Pull beginning at 7 p.m. There is a $5 gate admission on Tuesday.

More outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy the show on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. with the ATV and Dirt Bike Rodeo, and the first of two nights of wood carving demonstrations will also be held. Gate admission on Wednesday is also $5.

The always popular Family Night for kids and adults young at heart will be held on Thursday. Admission at the gate is only $2 and, even better, in recognition of two groups, all veterans and senior citizens will get in free on Family Night. There will also be the second of two nights of wood carving demonstrations on Thursday.

Also, this year on Thursday, June 18, the Clinton County Fair will be open for special needs adults only, from 12 noon to 3 p.m. with no admission cost.

Friday will be a full, busy night at the 2015 Clinton County Fair with various activities going on, including the main event, the Demolition Derby for big cars, small cars and small trucks or SUVs that begins in the main show ring at 7 p.m. Also at 7 p.m. the Kid Power Wheels Demo Derby for 4-8 year-olds will be held and, if that’s not enough, a Lawnmower Demolition Derby will also take place at 7 p.m.

Other than all the bang ‘em, crash ‘em up events going on, after a year’s hiatus, the drawing for the tractor–a John Deere 4045-D–will take place starting at 6 p.m. in the main building. There will be a winner for each 25th ticket drawn with the final ticket being the winner of the tractor. Several cash awards, beginning with the first ticket, each 25th and next to the last ticket drawn will be awarded at amounts of either $100 or $500.

Only 350 tickets on the tractor are being sold at $100 each and tickets are still available and may be purchased from any Clinton County Fair Board member.

This year’s version of the county fair will conclude next Saturday, June 20 with the big KOTTPA Truck and Tractor Pull beginning at 7 p.m. For fans not into pulling, there will also be Professional Wrestling at 8 p.m. in the main show ring in front of the grandstands.

Forever Young Amusements will be on the midway next Monday through Saturday, offering armbands for all-night rides Monday through Thursday for $10 and Friday and Saturday for $12.

The Clinton County Fair Board works hard throughout the year to plan for each year’s fair in hopes of bringing programs and events for the entire family and community. Please patronize the county’s annual event by planning to attend one or all nights of the 2015 Clinton County Fair.
