Competition will be aplenty at the Clinton County Fair

We may still be in the slow stretch as far as local sports events go, with schools out for the summer break, however, there will be plenty of competition and fun in store this week with the Family Night competitive events at the Clinton County Fair.

Moved to Thursday night this year, the Family Night will again feature plenty of foot races for all ages and a lineup of some of the events we’ve seen in the center fair ring for several years, including the water bucket relay, back seat driving contest and egg tossing.

A few new events are planned, including a nail driving contest and hot pepper eating event.

Organizers are also planning on the return of an event that was popular in years past, but has been absent for the past few years – a greased pig contest.

The fun is slated to get underway at the fairgrounds at 7:00 p.m. and a new fair board director is in charge of the program this year, Farm Bureau Insurance Agent Morgan Pence. He can be reached at 606-688-1878.

Come on out and get in on the fun Thursday during Family Night at the Clinton County Fair.

New turf coming along

As most of your Bulldog gridiron fans noticed a couple of weeks ago, a new layer of top soil has been added to the center area of Bulldog Field, and with a lot of watering and TLC, the new turf is now visible.

A true “cone” shape now exists on the field – which has never been there since the field was constructed. Bottom line – the standing water that was an issue in the past, should now properly drain after heavy rains.

Drive by and take a look. Football will be here before we know it.

Spring comes to an end Sunday

Believe it or not, as temperatures hover in the upper 80s and low 90s, we’re still enjoying the spring season.

Although most of us consider the start of summer to arrive with the Memorial Day holiday, the official start of summer is actually this Sunday when the Summer Solstice arrives at 11:39 a.m.

Of course, the Summer Solstice is the day that each year has the most daylight hours of any other day.

Coincidently, this year, the Summer Solstice also occurs on Father’s Day. That makes Father’s Day the longest day of the year – as it should be.

Happy Father’s Day!
