The Clinton County Fair is still underway, but just two weeks after the annual week-long community event comes to a close Saturday night, the second of two summer holidays will take stage at Mountain View Park with the now-annual 4th of July fireworks celebration.
The event has always been more than just a fireworks show, however, and this summer’s program is no different with various activities for all ages taking place beginning in the mid-afternoon.
Most of last year’s events will continue, with a couple of added events leading up to the fireworks show that starts at 9 p.m.
Activities will start at 3 p.m. and will include the return of the car show. Vehicles will be on display from 3-6 p.m. with trophies awarded at 5 p.m. Entry fee is $10 and the first 50 vehicles will receive dash plates.
Categories in the car show will be Best Chevy; Best Ford; Best Mopar; Best Modified Custom; People’s Choice; Rattiest Rat; Best Paint; and Most Original, as well as Best of Show–car, truck motorcycle and tractor.
For more information on the car show, call Jason Warinner at 606-387-1197.
A new event this year catering to basketball players and fans will be the Hot Shot Contest, which will take place on the ball courts starting at 4 p.m. Shooters will have 60 seconds to hit as many shots as possible from five (5) marked spots on the court. Entry fee is $2 per contestant.
Age groups for the Hot Shot contest are six and under; 7-9; 10-12; 13-15; 16-29; and 30 and over. Trophies will also be awarded for top male and female Hotshot, with the winner in each category receiving a trophy. Ties will be broken by additional rounds.
For more information on the Hot Shot contest contact Luke Moons at 606-306-1717.
For the children, the popular inflatables will be back at the park July 4th, along with a water slide and rock wall. Inflatables will be available from 3 to 8:30 p.m., and armbands for unlimited use of all three items for the entire time will be available for $5 each.
Also something new this year will be a Healthy Grilling Demonstration at 5:30 p.m.
There will be gospel music by local artists and groups on stage from 6-8 p.m., and the popular Clinton County Alumni Band will be performing prior to the fireworks starting at 8 p.m.
Concession and other type booths will also be set up at the park. Anyone interested in renting a booth space for concession sales or other promotions should call Park Director Bobby Reneau at 606-688-4337.
Spectators are welcome to park at either Mountain View Park or the Clinton County Middle School parking lot.
All proceeds from the events held at the park during the July 4th celebration will go toward resurfacing the park’s walking track.
The event is primarily put on by the Chamber of Commerce and Recreation Park Board with sponsorship also from the City of Albany, Clinton County Industrial Development Authority, and all three local banks (First & Farmers, Monticello Banking and People’s Bank), among others.
For more information on events planned for the celebration, call Jay Garner at 606-688-0469 or April Speck at 606-306-2222.
