Still slow on activities but things should start picking up soon

There is still not a lot to report on as far as local sports goes, mostly because there isn’t anything going on.

Practice sessions for fall sports won’t get underway until later this month when the first official organized practice sessions for golf, soccer, football, volleyball and cross country is allowed to get underway.

In the mean time, the wet, cloudy weather we have been experiencing this summer hasn’t been very conducive to getting a good growth start on the recent rehab work performed at Bulldog field, but the new growth is slowly coming in and hopefully by the start of this fall’s 2015 gridiron season, the boys will be playing on a new, plush surface of bermuda grass.

Of course what the new growth needs now is not so much rain, but a lot more sunshine. As I told CCHS Athletic Director Mike Beard last week when we were discussing the same subject – don’t we all – need a lot more sunshine!

Fore the Kids tourney in the planning stages

One of the annual events of the summer that has long been on the local calendar, the Fore the Kids Golf Tournament that benefits our CCHS Golf Dawgs and Lady Golf Dawgs is still in the planning stages.

A meeting was slated for Tuesday night for organizers to begin working out the details and more information is expected to be forthcoming about the tournament.

Check here next week.
