As of Wednesday, practice begins

According to KHSAA rules, the practice courts are now open, as of this Wednesday (July 15) across Kentucky.

The July 15 date is the first date that coaches can hold organized practice sessions for the fall sports played in high schools across Kentucky, and for Clinton County, that means football, soccer, golf, volleyball and cross country.

Of course athletes are able to do individual workouts on their own and those who are serious about becoming better at any sport, are often spotted working on their game either on their own, or in open gym/open field situations. Golf and cross country probably gets the most “unofficial” practice activity of any of those sports as players can work on their skills individually at any time.

Mike Anders Fore The Kids tournament

update

The annual benefit golf tournament to raise funds for our Golf Dawgs’ and Lady Golf Dawgs’ teams has been set for Saturday, August 1 at 76 Falls Country Club.

According to one of the tournament organizers, Pat Campbell, this year’s event will again be a four-person scramble with a blind (ABCD) draw.

Entry fee is $50 per player and will include an all you can eat lunch the day of the tournament. A check-in time of 9:00 a.m. with a 10:00 a.m. shotgun start will get things going that morning.

Prizes will include $2,000 for the first place team with second and third place receiving a 60-40 calcutta split, respectively, all based on a full field of 72 players.

Additional prizes will be awarded for the straightest drive, closed to the pin and the longest putt contests.

Additional information or to pre-register, contact Pat Campbell (606-306-1305), Fredrick Honeycutt (606-688-1965) or Nick Irwin (606-688-0731).

Of course the tournament, formerly just the Fore the Kids event, is now in it’s third year as the Mike Anders Fore The Kids memorial tournament, named for former C.C.H.S. boys’ golf coach Mike Anders who perished in a plane crash in Florida in January, 2013.

Sid is under the weather

Long-time Voice of the Bulldogs on WANY, Sid Scott, is having a bout with pneumonia and he continues to be hospitalized and in intensive care in Cookeville, Tennessee.

I spoke with his daughter, Lynn Starnes, this week, who reported that at present his condition is that he remains in intensive care and his condition has advanced to a bout with double pneumonia.

Sid has been on the sidelines broadcasting basketball and football games for several decades, beginning in the late 1950s and continuing until present day.

Lynn said the family appreciates all of the thoughts, prayers and well-wishes they have received, and continue to receive.

Get well soon, Big Sid!
