Interesting British Open
Although not with the dedication that I watched the two previous PGA majors this year, I again found myself watching this past week’s British Open, and from the chatter on sports talk radio, more fans than ever were also tuned in to see if Jordan Spieth could pull off capturing the third leg of the PGA Grand Slam
Of course the world was watching Spieth attempt to win the third leg of the four PGA major tournaments that would be considered the Grand Slam.
Spieth was one shot short of getting into the final four-hole playoff Monday afternoon, but it was still satisfying to watch another American golfer, Zach Johnson, capture the coveted Claret Jug by defeating South African Louis Oosthuizen and Australian Marc Leishman.
It was a little disappointing that only two professional golfers made it into the Top 10 finishing spots, but it was nice to add that the top amateur in the event, American golfer Jordan Niebrugge, finished in a tie for sixth.
Personally, I was pulling for Spieth to win, with hopes that “old timer” Phil Mickelson could claim the win if Spieth didn’t.
Mike Anders Fore The Kids tournament reminder
Just a short reminder that as I mentioned last week, the annual benefit golf tournament to raise funds for our Golf Dawgs’ and Lady Golf Dawgs’ teams has been set for Saturday, August 1 at 76 Falls Country Club.
Entry fee is $50 per player and will include an all you can eat lunch the day of the tournament. A check-in time of 9:00 a.m. with a 10:00 a.m. shotgun start will get things going that morning.

Sid continues to improve
Again as an update on a note from last week, long-time Voice of the Bulldogs on WANY, Sid Scott, continues to improve in intensive care in Cookeville, Tennessee.
Sid has been battling pneumonia for about two weeks now, but after several setbacks, things began to slowly improve in the middle of last week with his condition.
Sid’s daughter, Lynn Starnes, told me on Tuesday morning of this week that although he remains in the Intensive Care Unit in Cookeville and he still “has a ways to go”, his condition is slowly improving and headed in the right direction.’
She wanted me to pass along to you readers that the family appreciates all of the well-wishes, concerns and prayers, and added that those would still be needed and appreciated.
Again, get well soon, Big Sid!
