Several community leaders from a very diverse group of backgrounds and fields, joined a team of visitors from the University of Kentucky and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta last week at the University of Kentucky Extension Service facility.
The purpose of the joint meeting was to share insights and ideas that will be used in formulating plans for a grant that Clinton County will be receiving through the local Extension Office efforts.
That grant will be part of a $1.8 million program that will be shared by six counties to tackle health issues that adversely affect the local population, including obesity and chronic diseases such as heart disease and diabetes.
Among the many suggestions for new programs that were discussed by the group attending last week’s session were ways to improve exercise opportunities for the local population and especially the younger residents and increased educational efforts about the benefits of leading healthier lifestyles, just to mention a few.
Additional details concerning the final details of how the grant funds will be distributed will be released as program preparations are completed.
