Golf Tournament a big success

Readers will find elsewhere in this week’s Sports a collection of photos with winners from last week’s Mike Anders Fore The Kids benefit golf tournament.

Golf Dawg Coach Nick Irwin tells me this week that the tournament was a great success for both of our varsity squads, noting that some 60 golfers participated on what was a fantastic day for enjoying some golf.

Haven’t been handed full golf schedules yet as final tweaking is still going on, but officially, the season has already begun. The Golf teams opened this Tuesday morning in the Dale Hollow Invitational at Dale Hollow Lake State Resort Golf Course then on Saturday the Golf Dawgs will travel to Bowling Green to compete in the Warren East High School Invitational Tournament.

Sid continues to mend – now at home

News continues to get better and better each week surrounding long time WANY Voice of the Bulldogs Sid Scott, who has been battling a bout with pneumonia for the better part of a month now.

His daughter, Lynn Starnes, tells me this week that Sid has now progressed in his recovery process to the point of being at home and is working on regaining his strength.

She says he is improving each day. Sid’s recent illness has included an extended stay in a Cookeville hospital, followed by a brief stay in a rehabilitation facility there before being released and sent to finish his recouping in the comforts of his own home.

Nothing like being at home after an ordeal like Big Sid has gone through this summer.

Glad to hear he’s back on the mends and as has been the case since he first became ill, the family continues to appreciate the thoughts, prayers and all of the concern that has come their way from the community.

Big yellow buses back on the road – slow it down again

Since we’re already talking about the fall sports seasons getting underway, that also means of course that beginning next week, you’ll also encounter those big yellow school buses on the roads, along with the student drivers getting to schools, not to mention the teachers and staff – all driving to and from the school facilities twice a day.

Just a little reminder that the highways will be a little busier than we’ve been used to for the past couple of months, especially during the morning and afternoon hours. Give yourself a little more room, a little more time, and leave the phone in it’s cradle.
