Gridiron action gets underway with a two-night start
After a brief lull during the summer months without very much sporting activities on the local scene, well, school went back in session and things immediately got busy.
Don’t expect it to slow down much for awhile, either.
The Clinton County High School football Bulldogs will be taking to the field this week – twice in a manner of speaking.
Of course the season opener for this 2015 season is this Friday night when we play host to the cross-state rival Bobcats of Pickett County, Tennessee.
Coach Jamie Miller and his Dawgs will be trying to avenge last year’s season opening 20-6 loss that came at the hands of the Bobcats.
This year’s game gets underway on Bulldog Field with a slated 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
Football will also be getting all of the attention the night before the season opener when the annual football version of “Meet The Bulldogs” is hosted.
A separate front-page article gives more details about the event this year, but expect plenty of activities at Bulldog Field, including player, coaches and cheerleader introductions, a bon fire, concessions and a host of other events for the Thursday night meet and greet. Many activities are also geared toward the little league aged football player.
Meet The Bulldogs is slated to begin at 6:00 p.m.
Fall Big Blue Preview included this week
Our annual Fall version of the Big Blue Preview is included in this week’s Clinton County News and we hope you enjoy it as well as find it informative and entertaining.
The Preview is chock full of photos of the players and teams, as well as preview articles about what we can expect from the lineup of C.C.H.S. fall sports activities.
For many years, we only talked about golf during the fall season. Now those opportunities have been well expanded and we enjoy covering a gamut of events including golf, soccer, volleyball, cross country and football.
I can take no credit for this year’s Preview – that goes mostly to Brett Gibson for the photography and writing, and Amanda Sharpe for advertising layout.
Former Bulldog coach honored with court naming
Former Clinton County High School boys’ basketball coach Allen Feldhaus, Jr., has been honored for the accomplishments he has achieved with the Madison Central boys’ basketball program.
It was announced last week at the Madison County Board of Education meeting that the floor in the Madison Central gymnasium would from this point forward be known as “Allen Feldhaus, Jr. Court”.
Feldhaus, or “A.J˘ as we affectionately referred to him back then, got his high school coaching career underway here at Clinton County High School. He was with our program for two seasons, 1986 – 88.
Since taking over the Madison Central job some 22 seasons ago, he has compiled a 456-224 record in addition to coaching the Indians to the 2013 KHSAA Sweet 16 State Championship.
Congratulations on a well-deserved honor.
