Congrats to the Gridiron Dawgs

The football Dawgs evened their record with a nice win this past Friday night, picking up a 34-6 win over Trimble County.

The victory over the Raiders pulled the Dawgs to the 1-1 mark as they head into their second road trip in as many outings. The Dawgs head east this Friday night to once again take on some Raiders, this time at McCreary Central High School.

McCreary also enters Friday night’s contest with a 1-1 mark, coming off of a close 26-22 victory this past week over Lynn Camp after losing it’s season opener to Jenkins in a lop-sided loss, 46-6.

Clinton and McCreary kick-off at 7:00 p.m. Central time.

Golf action aplenty

The late summer weather has been agreeable to seeing plenty of golf action for our Lady Golf Dawgs and Golf Dawgs so far.

Clinton County’s Golf Dawgs and Lady Golf Dawgs were slated to compete Tuesday afternoon in the 16th District Tournament at Dale Hollow Lake State Park.

That comes after the Lady Golf Dawgs lost a close one Monday to Barren County while the Golf Dawgs split that same afternoon between Barren County and Cumberland County.

Up next on the golf schedule, Russell County boys will take on the Golf Dawgs at DHLSRP this Thursday, and on Friday, both the Lady Golf Dawgs and Golf Dawgs will head to Hart County for a match there.

Volley Dawgs take runner-up in All ‘A’

Although they made it to the championship round of Saturday’s All “A” regional tournament after defeating Todd County Central, our Volley Dawgs fell short of their hopes of advancing to the All ‘A’ State.

Clinton County fell to regional champion Monroe County Saturday in the regional event that was hosted in Clinton County at the Lindle Castle Gymnasium.

Our Lady Dawgs and Coach Kayla Krick are certainly to be congratulated on the runner-up title.

Bulldog field revamp work acknowledged

Although it certainly wasn’t the most favorable year for trying to get Bermuda grass seed started, the construction work that took place on Bulldog Field the past few months will make play better this season and for seasons to come.

The field had developed a concave shape down the center that held water and during wet seasons, meant that play would often be in muddy conditions as the center area simply would not drain.

Clinton County High School Athletic Director Mike Beard has submitted a “Thank You” letter that is published this week in the Clinton County News that acknowledges those responsible for getting this reconstruction work completed.

No need to repeat that same information here, but I will urge all readers to take notice of those mentioned in Beard’s letter and offer a personal “thanks” for their efforts when you run into them.

Thanks guys for helping to make a difference for our local youth.

Labor Day already?

Seems hard to believe, but Labor Day is here already and that not only means a busy weekend, but a coming slowdown in tourism traffic for awhile.

Be careful this weekend, on the roads as well as our lakes if you head to the water. Give yourself a little extra time, and room, and by all means, have a safe and happy Labor Day weekend.
