Congrats to the Gridiron Dawgs – III
Coach Jamie Miller and Company are at the top of the congrats list once again this week after a nice and exciting 34-27 win this past Friday night over the Trojans of Webster County.
The victory pushes Clinton County’s record to the 3-1 mark, matching the start the Dawgs have achieved for the past couple of seasons.
Clinton County will take it’s three game winning streak on the road this weekend, heading over to nearby Caverna in Hart County to take on the Colonels.
Caverna has seen it’s program off to a rough start this season as the Colonels are currently 0-4 and will be coming into Friday night’s game after suffering a 44-0 loss at the hands of cross-town rival Hart County.
Kickoff Friday night is set for 7:00 p.m.
Hard to believe that after Friday night’s contest, the 2015 season will be at the half-way mark already.
Nice accolade – especially after defeat
It’s always easy to be gracious after picking up a win, but being gracious and nice after suffering a loss is not always commonplace.
That wasn’t the case Friday night after our Dawgs handed Webster County its third straight loss in as many outings.
Clinton County Athletic Director Mike Beard told me this past weekend that during a conversation with the Webster County football coach after the game, he expressed to Beard that while he – like any coach – hated to lose a game, he had to say the Clinton County staff and especially the players had been “the classiest bunch that they had ever played against.”
Beard said the visiting coach really spoke well of everyone and the way they were treated while they were here.
While picking up a win is always fun, hearing a comment like that from a visiting coach – especially a visiting coach that has just lost a contest – has to make everyone wearing and bleeding blue swell with pride for the way our boys handle themselves on and off of the field.
Seasons winding down for golf
Golf season is looking at only a couple of more weeks and it’s been a fun one to cover. Regional tournament week for both the Golf Dawgs and Lady Golf Dawgs gets underway during the week of September 28.
The girls will head to Barren River on Monday, September 28, while the boys play in Franklin on Tuesday, February 29 at the Kenny Perry Course.
The other athletic offerings this fall sees Soccer continuing until at least the second weeks of October. The Volleydawgs play regular season matches until mid October also and the Runnin’ Dawgs Cross Country will be competing until the end of October.
