The Recreation Park Board’s Executive Committee, meeting in special session last Thursday evening, September 24, put some final touches on a major project at Mountain View Park that will not only see the much used walking track resurfaced, but other areas inside the facility as well.

Meeting with five board members present, along with Park Director Bobby Reneau, the only official item of business was a vote taken to approve the Healthy Hometown Coalition’s offer of funding to complete the re-paving project. The motion to approve the measure passed unanimously.

Bids on the project is now being advertised for, with an invitation to bid notice appearing last week and this week in the legal section of the Clinton County News.

The HHC will be accepting bids for sports surfacing with an asphalt sand mix for the walking track and bleacher area as well. Those bids will be opened next Tuesday, October 6 at 12 noon at the Board of Education building Central Office board room.

In relation to the project, the Executive Committee went on record thanking both the county and city governments for contributing $7,500 each, or a total of $15,000 to the resurfacing project, which is expected to be completed before the end of October.

Reneau also told the board he was doing cosmetic work at the park in preparation for the paving to be done in the weeks ahead, including grading work. He also noted that the project would entail some surfacing work near the entrance parking lot and the board discussed putting up some type of speed bumps in that area, but allowing space for wheelchair access.

The park will also have a few Roller Coaster Yard Sale vendors set up this weekend, including a couple of vendors that will be located in the Farmers Market building.

The board also thanked the Clinton County Extension Service for its efforts in helping to get funds for other items that will be added to the park, as well as possible ways to add walking trails, etc. to enhance the park.

It was also noted that the 21st Century soccer league was set to begin last Friday, September 25 at the park.

The next regular meeting of the park board is scheduled for Thursday, October 29 at 6 p.m. at the park and is open to the general public.
