Time to show support for our Runnin’ Dawgs

With no local meets on the schedule, Foothills Festival weekend is always the best opportunity local sports fans have to show our support for yet another of our CCHS athletic programs, the Cross County runners.

Our Runnin’ Dawgs compete in several meets throughout the fall season, but with no local course to host on, all of their meets are on the road, leaving local fans (except parents of course) with little opportunity to show our support for this group.

Except for one weekend – and this is it. Our Cross Country runners always show up in great numbers to participate and compete in our annual Foothills Festival 5K Run so, this Saturday morning, take the opportunity to come to town early and show your support.

Doesn’t have to be at the finish line, although that’s where the largest number of 5K fans will gathers. Pick a spot anywhere along the route and cheer the runners on as they go by.

Shows our young athletes we care when they put on a blue and white uniform, regardless of the sport.

5K reregistration begins at 7:00 a.m., with an 8:00 a.m. start at Mountain View Recreation Park. Award ceremony will follow briefly after the final runners cross the finish line. Another side advantage to coming to town early and enjoying the race – you can find a prime parking spot to enjoy the day’s festivities.

Gridiron Dawgs now even, set to take on Jenkins Thursday

Giving up the 34-20 loss this past Friday night against Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee dropped our Bulldogs’ record back to the even mark at 4-4.

Coach Miller and crew will be on the road again for a rare Thursday night game at Jenkins High School over in the far eastern Kentucky region in Letcher County.

The Cavaliers are coming off a 34-12 loss this past Friday night at the hands of South Floyd and are now 1-6 on the season.

Hit ‘em hard, Dawgs!

Sid at home and showing improvement

Still recovering from his second round of serious illness this summer, long-time WANY broadcaster and CCHS Basketball Wall of Fame member Sid Scott is now home and showing signs of steady improvement.

Sid has had a tough time this summer and fall getting over a serious bout of double pneumonia and now other related problems, but after a second stint in the hospital, he is again back at home and recovering.

Sid first battled double pneumonia in the spring and summer but recovered enough that he was out and about for awhile, did a couple of Bulldog football broadcasts and even argued a point or two with me during a recent Wall of Fame meeting.

A couple of weeks ago, a setback sent him back into the hospital but last week he had improved enough to return home to continue recovery and recuperation.

His daughter Lynn Starnes, who has been keeping me informed as to his recovery progress, tells me this week that while he is still very weak from his latest setback, he is showing signs of improvement.

She said the family is very appreciative of all of the thoughts, prayers and well-wishes that have come their way during this ordeal and she added the need for the same continues.
