The Clinton County Football team moved to 4-4 this week with a loss at home to Red Boiling Springs, 34-20.
For the second week in a row, Clinton County has had to play its Friday night game in the mud and with slippery conditions on the field, Head Coach Jamie Miller was pleased with his team and the way they held on to the ball.
“I think we won the turnover ratio and with a sloppy field like that, it’s always a plus,” Miller said. “We did a good job of holding on to the ball, but there were a couple of players we couldn’t stop.”
Miller said Red Boiling Springs came out ready to play Friday night.
“I’m not going to take anything away from them … they came out and hit us in the mouth,” Miller said. “After the first quarter, everything was the same. I think sometimes we have to find out why it is our mentality is not ready to play.”
Miller said his team wasn’t mentally ready to play in the opening quarter.
“They knew what to do, they had the game play, there were no surprises … we have to come out ready to play,” Miller said “I think they came in at halftime and was ready to play, but sometimes that’s too late. If you are playing a team who is evenly matched and they get a few points early, sometimes it’s hard to play catchup.”
Clinton County will play this week on Thursday night at Jenkins.
Miller said one reason the game is on Thursday is because of the Foothills Festival being this week and the other is the fact Jenkins will be a four plus hour bus ride.
“We are going to stay there after the game because it is such a long bus ride,” Miller said. “We will focus on defense one day and offense the next day and go through our walk through Wednesday and hopefully be ready to play Thursday.”
Clinton County’s game Thursday is set for a 7 p.m. kick off.
With only two games remaining, Miller said this season has gone by very fast and he doesn’t want to see it end.
“There have been some seasons that seemed like it was an eternity with the 0-10 season we had,” Miller said.
Jenkins enters Clinton County’s game with a 1-6 record.
